Battery Disconnect Relay

This is a bad battery relay switch. The paper is all burnt from overheating. Notice the wire colors on the switching posts.
  1. Battery Disconnect Relay. The first thing you need to do to replace the battery disconnect relay is to disconnect the batteries. Disconnect both the house battery and the chassis battery.
  2. Pull the fuse for the solar panel battery charger also.
  3. Take a picture of the wiring so that it could be used as a reference if needed.

  5. I disconnected the 2 wires coming from the disconnect switches inside the motorhome to the battery disconnect relay. One is gray and one is purple. The battery relay disconnect has a color code on it for these wires. If the color code is missing, look on the other battery relay disconnect to see if that one has the color code.
  6. I then disconnected the main battery wires from the main lugs. One is from the battery and the other is to the chassis power.
  7. The next step is to loosen the battery lug nuts on the battery isolator relay solenoid. This will allow the removal of the copper connectors to the disconnect you are replacing.
  8.  Next the 2 mounting screws have to be removed. They should be short self tapping screws.

Pull the fuse for the solar panel battery charger also.
