Town and Country LXI Transmission Problems
Town and Country Lxi transmission problems. At first I would have the car stall in forward while driving. If I put it in neutral and hit the key it would restart ok. I went thru several checks, but could not really find a problem. The stalling problem went away by itself. Then I started having a forward running ok but no reverse. Every time I put it in Reverse it would stall. It seemed like an electrical problem, but I couldn’t find where the problem was. I also thought that it could be a valve sticking in the transmission so I added a bottle of Lucas Transmission fix to the transmission. That seemed to smooth out the operation, but did not fix the no reverse problem. I ran the car for about a week and decided to change the transmission fluid and filter. While looking under the car with the engine running, I moved some wires in front of the transmission and the engine shut off. I tried that several times and each time the engine shut off. To make things simple, I found that the wires running up along the front of the transmission had rubbed thru the protective cover and a computer ground wire was shorting out and when I put the transmission in reverse the ground went to ground on the transmission case instead of the computer ground. I used liquid tape on the bare wire and the wrapped it with an old radiator hose I had in the shop. Since that repair the transmission works like new.
